Riccardo Zipoli,
June 11-29, 2008, Potsdam
Subject: "Venice in Windows"
photographs by Riccardo Zipoli, with poetry by Mirzâ Abdolqâder Bidel translated by Riccardo Zipoli
(English version from the Italian by David Kerr)
The exhibition will be shown at the Pavillon on the Freundschaftsinsel in Potsdam (11 June – 29 June 2008) and is organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Berlin on the occasion of the Sanssouci Musikfestspiele.
The 40 photographs of the exhibition, selected from over a thousand photographs taken from 2004 to 2006, show a fleeting, elusive city, at once ideal and metaphysical. That is how Venice appears reflected in the panes of its own windows – both ephemeral and eternal. This is no double but a different Venice, an imaginary Venice. Its changing forms and colors are multiplied in unexpected perspectives and astonishing juxtapositions. The tangible is combined pictorially with the abstract. Domes, trees, bell towers, columns, clouds, statues, and chimneys are momentarily caught, in more or less distorted forms, framed by the windows of houses and palaces.
The works in the exhibition are shown in pairs. Each pair has a specific feature shared by the two images.
The lines of verse accompanying the photographs are all dedicated to the theme of the mirror and are taken from the Persian divan of Mirzâ Abdolqâder Bidel (1644-1720), a poet, philosopher and mystic who lived in India and is one of the truly great writers in Persian literature.
The exhibition is a sort of invitation to visit the town in a different way and an example of how to show the close relationship between the artistic activities of two great cultures.
The material in the exhibition has been published in Riccardo Zipoli, Venezia alle finestre, Marsilio, Venice, 2006.
The exhibition was shown at the Real Academia de España in Rome (19 December 2006 – 18 January 2007), at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice (15 May – 15 June 2007), at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran (19 February – 19 April 2008) and will be shown at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris in the Summer 2009. more info:

Subject: "Construct"
The notion of incompleteness that is present inherently in the act of Construction pushes us to think more about a particular space, due to the fact that a complete building loses its narrative potential: There is no puzzle to solve anymore… Construction sites are like historical ruins; Paul Zucker asserts in his article ‘Ruins: An Aesthetic Hybrid’ that “ruins have held for a long time a unique position in the visual, emotional, and literary imagery of man. Devastated by time or willful destruction, incomplete as they are, they represent a combination of man-made forms and of organic nature.” Resting on this statement, the more incomplete the "Construct" is; the more organic life gets, the more surprises and the fewer boundaries we have: Hoping the flexibility within the incompleteness in the construction process will relax the completeness of the dogmatic type of mental construct…

Photographers in Galata
Curated by Engin Ozendes, the exhibition will include recently commissioned works all focusing on the subject of Galata Bridge by six Turkish photographers including Murat Germen.
Considered among the most outstanding and innovative names in Turkish photography, these six photographers, who all work with a strongly conceptual bias, have approached Galata and its neighborhoods from perspectives that are diametrically opposed to the usual photographic cliché. in the projects they have specially developed for this exhibition, not only have they aimed to reflect the historical significance of the area and its associations for Istanbul, but they have also sought to expose the impact of changing living conditions and the diversity of urban development on the area in an attempt to generate fresh understandings of Galata and its significance.
These works reveal the different ages of Galata, its multicultural past, architectural characteristics, and inimitable way of connecting East and West as a crossroads or junction between different urban realities.
These works range from photographs that compress different moments on Galata Bridge into a single frame, to collages that recreate its multicultural history through reference to both visual and literary materials; from wide, panoramic images running wall-to-wall, to installations that focus on different aspects of interior space.

Nickol Gallery presented my photos about Fruits. My first Exhibition on fruit was 3 years before that date.
The dimensions of the photos varied from 30x45 to 100x100 cm. Some of them had erotic form and some of them had created playful,
theatrical scene by its mate. Abstract form beside exciting color of fruit by
macro photographing entailed good selling. Colors and comedic characters of fruits made them attractive for all.

camera (Canon AV-1 with Vivitar 70-210 macro lens - Series 1), in Haft

The title of my exhibition was "Confession" which implied social
criticism. Instead of others, I did confess about our wrong way of living, wrong attitude about environment,
pollution, animal rights beside human rights, and sometimes about self-aggrandizement
referring to political issues. That was not my tendency, but showing people the beauties of the nature can not be helpful in a society of
aggressiveness; sometimes a kind of mirror is better.
The name of some photos in that exhibition can reveal the atmosphere of it:
Broken life , Good bye 70's , The missed celebration, Thinker, Traffic, New
citizens, Roof, Venus, Slippery Road, Marriage...
About 30 photos in 30x45 cm presented there. Nearly half of them were digital
and among them some manipulation was applied. The photos that had taken on film were more realistic and
documentary works. The name of some photos had chosen in ironic manner, which
exaggerated the bitterness of them... Some of them even, evoke me now. No one buy any of them and there is no need to explain for the
reasons! I like that exhibition so much for the powerful photos that addresses our contemporary
people in our society.
