Snapshot Photography: History and Analysis, from beginnings to the end of 2oth century

The word "snapshot" was coined in 1860, by Sir John Herschel. The reason for the name was the similarity between marksmanship and pulling the trigger in hunting rifles and the aiming and opening and closing of the camera shutters.

Today, billions of snapshots are taken, developed and printed every year. Over time, snapshots made photography popular by making it simpler and more useful.

Taking pictures of friends, relatives, trips, and ceremonies such as birthdays, graduations and weddings provided a visual calendar for families.
